Ultrasound: The easiest way to determine that the uterus has been cleaned of all products of conception is a vaginal ultrasound. The thickness of the lining of the uterus can be measured in this way and if too thick based on your cycle, could indicate retained pregnancy tissue. This situation usually results in fairly heavy bleeding and may include cramping as well.
