Pregnancy = Change.: A woman's body normally retains more water during pregnancy. Edema accumulates around the legs and eyes; the legs b/c they are lowest part of the body and the eyelids b/c it has the thinnest skin of the body. Your friend should see her ob/gyn; some conditions (ex: pre-eclampsia) can cause sudden severe swelling with headaches. Keeping the head elevated at night will help lessen the eyelid edema.
