Not just carbs...: With excess tummy fat, one surely should avoid sugar and simple starches, but weight loss occurs not only by avoiding carbs. Weight loss depends on the total decrease in caloric intake (regardless of how much of it is from fats, protein, or carbs). There isn't a definite number, so one can try eating 400-500 carb calories less than before dieting, to see how much weight loss occurs in 1-2 weeks.
