Home remedies ?: Gouty arthritis is best treated by your doctor. If you are asking for home remedies for an acute attack, i would recommend against it. Home remedies are incredibly ineffective for acute attacks and the possible long term effects of the disease makes it important that you are under the care of your primary care physician or internist.

Better to avoid...: Dairy products, coffee, cherries, and vitamin c are thought to slightly reduce uric acid, which is the cause of gout. It probably more important to avoid sources of uric acid such as red meat and organ meat (sweetbread, liver, chitlins, etc). High sugar intake, especially fructose, can also increase the risk of gout.
