Is 300 mg of allopurinol too much to take on a daily basis for chronic gout. doctor is saying take it with colchicine. should they be taken together or just when it flares up?

They can be taken together. as to when you should take it -ask your doc who knows your problem. Also any time a med is prescribed pl ask the prescriber about- why, what to expect when to take and any side effects.

300 mg is the typical dose for allopurinol that is to be taken daily once started with goals of reducing uric acid level and potential gout attacks. Colchicine is typically used during attacks while continuing to take allopurinol, if tolerated. Confirm with your rheumatologist or primary care doc.
