U: Gout is associated with the settlement of uric acid crystals in a joint resulting in pain, swelling and redness to the area. Treatment involves decreasing the purines in your diet and increasing the kidney excretion of the uric acid from the body. Uloric or Allopurinol are my drugs of choice. I always encourage diet modification as well. Look on the internet for foods (high purine) to avoid.
