Hernia is : Defect, or hole, in the fascia, or the covering, of the abdominal wall. At the belly button, or umbilicus, there is a potential weakness where the fetus connects to placenta in the uterus.. When the area does not close completely at birth or potential weak area breaks down for any reason, you can get an umbilical hernia.
