Adhesions: Post-operative adhesions may result after any type of abdominal surgery. Think of a scar after you get a cut on your skin. The inside of the body will form scars to heal the tissue similarly. Sometimes these scar tissues are "sticky" and may form an adhesion to the intestine, or any other abdominal organ such as the liver, gallbladder, spleen or stomach. Most adhesions do not cause symptoms.
