Yes (with caveats): In ethics, we often discuss consent and assent. Consent is required before performing anything (procedure, exam etc.). The age of consent depends on your country, but I am unaware of any country that allows 12 years old to give legal consent (age is usually 18 or older). However, 12 year olds are old enough that they should participate in the decision and, ideally, give their assent to treatmen.
