Genes and diet: Many people inherit a predisposition to have high triglycerides if they become overweight. Sometimes triglycerides can be high in the absence of overweight but that's rare. Good news is that they are very sensitive to weight loss through diet and exercise. Low carb diets work best. Alcohol, Estrogens (contraceptive pill) and Accutane can increase triglycerides too. Hope this helps you out.
