Usually a sign of: An injury, often a minor injury that you may not even recall. Transverse lines usally are similar to rings on a tree--you can identify approximately about when the injury occurred by how much the nail has grown.

So on my big toe nails, and nowhere else, I have horizontal ridges about 3/4 the way up the nail. they are very very minor indents and you can hardly see them only very mildly feel them. Can this be normal nail anatomy or are these likely beau lines?
My toenails have horizontal ridges on them. Seem broken in the middle. Been like this for more than 10 years. Now a curved white line too.
