Many possibilities: There are many causes of horizontal ridges on nails, including trauma, malnutrition, infections, kidney or liver disease and arsenic poisoning but the fact that is it only on your big toenails makes it unlikely it is serious. See http://www.md-health.com/Fingernail-Ridges.html and check in with your doctor if it spreads to other nails or you other symptoms suggesting some of those conditions.
