What she needs:: It sure sounds like she has an infection. Untreated infections can lead to serious complications and can even be life threatening. What she needs is to see a dentist as soon as possible to diagnose the problem and suggest treatment options. Whether or not the tooth has to be removed depends upon what is wrong, what would be needed to save the tooth if possible, & what treatment option she chooses.

Schedule a visit: Dental infections should be taken seriously. Pain, swelling or puss are not normal and should be looked at by a dentist. These symptoms indicate a problem however it may not require extraction of the tooth. Consult your dentist for a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan.

Maybe: Should see a dentist or oral surgeon to evaluate asap but there may be options other than extraction. A dental professional can help you make the right decision but do not wait. Dental infections can have serious consequences of left untreated.

Tooth out?: If it is a primary tooth, absolutely. Infections of the primary teeth can have adverse effects on the developing permanent teeth underneath.
