Not normal: This is not normal. Consistent ankle pain can be a sign of a poorly rehabilitated ankle or a deeper underlying pathology involving the cartilage, ligaments or tendons in and around the ankle. A consultation with your local orthopedic surgeon might be warranted.

Ankle: Depends if recent or not but generally no. Ankle pain that is consistent may be due to ligament damage, osteochondral lesion etc. Have it checked and use the rice method. Rest, ice, compression, elevation.

No: A year after a severe ankle sprain, you should have recovered if treated properly. If the pain is in the same location or other areas around the same ankle, get it checked out by your treating physician. If that doctor isn't available, find one in your network that specializes in ankle sprains.
