Not auto-immune: Eczema is not an auto-immune response, but it does involve the immune system. Usual treatments are emollients (petrolleum jelly) & moisturizers (ex:cetaphyl or cerave creams) as well as topical corticosteroids.One may see use of stronger immunosuppressants under extreme cases, as well as xolair (ige blocker).Am not sure if these are used off-label or not (i.e. Not yet fda approved for this use?).

Allergy Respons: Eczema is an allergy to something, often foods. Using immune suppressant drugs will clear the problem but it is better to find the cause and remove it or treat it than to suppress the immune system. Suppressing the immune system can be very dangerous.
