A member asked:

Has anyone tried anti-tnf drugs for ra without using methotrexate at the same time?

Yes: Though the drug studies were set up to have these tnf agents used in combination with Methotrexate (mtx), many patients do take tnf agents without mtx. Certain tnf agents work better than others if mtx is not being taken. Speak to your rheumatologist if you are considering going off mtx.

YES: Approximately 1 in 3 RA patients do not take Methotrexate (mtx). There are a significant number of patients who take anti-tnf drugs without mtx...And are doing well. Some are probably not as effective without mtx such as Remicade (infliximab) and humira. But there are patients on these without mtx who are doing well too.
