Family practice : You were probably being treated for a ganglionic cyst. Your dr may be trying to resolve it with out surgery which sometimes is needed if they don't go away.

Why a steroid?: There may be some information missing here. Steroids are not the primary form of resolving lipomas. How did you know it was a fatty bump? Sounds like you should meet with your doctor and get the exact details.
