Pro vs con: Surgery: pro - addresses pathology directly, possibly shorter recovery (study supported), decrease chances of re-fracture. Con- risks include same risks for all surgeries. No surgery: pro - no surgery, incision, of possible surgical complications, or recovery period from surgery, cheaper. Con- may not heal fracture on timely manner, may need surgery anyways and you just wasted 3 months in cast.

Fracture: If displaced fracture you need surgery, if not displaced then can likely heal without it. Pros healing, tendons in good position , cons internal fixation may need to come out in future though not likely.

Navicular: Surgery is direct and treats the problem and is indicated for a displaced fracture. If nondisplaced , cast/boot will take care of it. The cons of surgery are incision , risk of infection, hardware and (unlikely) possibility of removal , prolonged pain , nerve or tendon injury, etc. Pros : deals with the problem . Non surgical - takes time and may need surgery anyway. Good luck.
