Procedural sedation : Your doctor may be able to request for your MRI to be performed in your local hospital's imaging department where they are equipped to sedate you intravenously. Although some outpatient imaging centers can do this as well. At the discretion of your doctor, can try pre-sedation with oral bezodiazepines. Halcion (triazolam) is usually a successful choice, 0.125 to 0.25 mg 15 to 20 min prior.

Anesthesia?: Depending on your overall health, you may be able to get an MRI under general anesthesia (like is given for surgery). However, this can only be done at a hospital, and frequently only hospitals that provide high level/critical care.

Moderate Sedation: Moderate sedation could be used, which is one step or so short of full surgical anesthesia. Not every location can perform it, and it is more common in hospitals.
