Chondromalacia : This common malady is one of the easiest pain conditions to fix. It just takes the right exercises to symmetrically tighten the muscles in your thigh so that the knee cap is held in place better. Thus the knee cap does not keep rubbing on the bones and creating inflammation and pain.

Stage of arthritis: Chondromalacia is just a fancy name for arthritic change. It implies cartilage disease or wear. You can have varying degrees of thinning of the cartilage (1-4) all the way down to bare bone. Like the tread on your tires once gone its gone. Can slow the process by keeping the weight down and avoiding pounding activities like running. Cant reverse genetics. See your a good knee guy to talk mor.
