I am an active 31 years old male. i got done a slight menisectomy via arthroscopy. the doctors used prednisolone in the wound and gave cipro for profilaxis. i don't like fq's side effects. any good antibiotics alternatives for my surgery profilaxis?

Clinda or Ancef (cefazolin): It sounds like you had surgery already... If not, i typically use ancef (cefazolin) during the surgery. You typically do not need anything to go home with. If you are allergic to penicillin, then I use clindamycin.

Prophylaxis: Giving antibiotics postoperatively is not prophylactic, it is therapy for existing infection. To do this intelligently you should have evidence of infection, be cultured and treatment based on the sensitivity to antibiotics of the organism isolated. The chance of infection due to arthroscopic meniscectomy is very low, assuming that appropriate sterile precautions were taken.
