Common symptom: Heart palpitations, or a fast beating/pounding heart (or better yet what you described as "beating really hard") is a textbook symptom of anxiety and panic, all other things considered. When we become anxious or fearful, we subtly tell our bodies to prepare us for potential threat. Our bodies are "gentlemen" and prepare us accordingly even when no danger exists.
