Fever is Uncommon: A fever has usually broken within 48 hours of being on antibiotics for an ear infection. If the fever continues, it either means that the antibiotic is not covering the bacteria causing the ear infection (in which case you need to switch to a different one), or that there is a viral illness associated with the infection.
