Ear and joint common: The back of the TMJ is the front of the ear canal. Many of the structures (arteries, veins, nerves, etc.) pass from the joint into the ear. Therefore, you have a structural, functional, postural reasons for possible relationships. If you have clicking that is another sign the jaw joint is in the wrong place. Check with your dentist or ask for a referral to someone who dx/rx these problems.

TMJ Hearing: Tmj stands for temporomandibular joint. The temporal bone contains the ear. If the lower jaw bone ( mandible) is pushing on the temporal bone when the teeth come together, this pressure can affect hearing and balance.

YES and NO: Symptoms of tmj/tmd can include hearing problems, dizziness (equilibrium/balance difficulties, ) and other ear related problems. But tmd can also be wrongly diagnosed if the ear/ears are the source of the problem. I would first see an ENT doctor to rule out ear/inner ear infection, etc.

Subjective only: TMJ patients often have "subjective" hearing loss. When tested, the hearing is actually normal. Why ear symptoms with TMJ? Controversial. Likely because the ear and TMJ are adjacent to each other.
