Decay, braces: There is a priority in treatment. The first phase of treatment should be to remove decay and treat your gums. Then you can have braces placed. If the position of the teeth is pretty clear, implants can be placed and be healing while you wear braces.

Treat infection 1st: Your dentist and the orthodontist should help you prioritize treatment. 1st control infection (cavities, gum disease). 2nd align teeth. 3rd do comprehensive restorative dentistry. Note that temporary implants (tads) may be needed during ortho rx, but permanent implants are usually better placed after the teeth have been moved into ideal positions.

Fix decay 1st!: You can place implants near "tooth decay" but the success rate drops in the presence of this and any other types of infection. "braces" should never be placed near or over decay as they may hide or shelter continual bacterial growth, prevent x-ray and/or probing detection, and mechanically obstruct the dentist from properly restoring the site. Summary: get all "fillings" done first!

Orthodontic first: If you are missing a tooth and planing to replace that space with an implant than the order of treatment is to first go ahead with the orthodontics to properly align your teeth than you can easily and more predicted have an implant placed in the area of the missing tooth. See a dentist to treatment plan accordingly.

Order of treatment: Similar to when you have a house built. Plan first, design, foundation, rooms and worry about colors and furnishings last. With your mouth: treatment plan, health of teeth and gums (fillings, periodontal\gums), orthodontics, implants, permanent restoration on implants, shade of teeth. Then maintain everything as you would your house or car.
