How to treat possible gum disease?

Infection control: Bacteria cause gum disease under the gum tissue, which is hard to reach. The best way to control the bacteria is to use something like the perio protect method that delivers a hydrogen peroxide gel (1.7%) into the region. This kills the bacteria that cause the infection and makes it so harmful bacteria cannot regrow in this area.

Different types: It will depend on a thorough exam by your dentist. Depending on how far the disease has progressed, some can have just a deep cleaning, and others will need more advanced care.

Gum disease: Once you are diagnosed with gum disease, you will first have a full mouth periodontal charting (charts the bone levels). Next you will have scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) where needed. After this you should return to your dentist in 4-6 weeks for evaluation of healing. If you have persistent periodontal pockets deeper than 5 mm, your doctor may recommend periodontal surgery.

Gum Disease: Treatment for gingival problems will vary based on the extent of the condition. Mild gingivitis could be treated with scaling and root planing, whereas advanced periodontitis may require surgical intervention. Since each mouth is different, no one answer fits every situation. Let your dentist explain the extent of your problem and recommended treatment.
