Can salt help you treat your gum disease?

Salt for your gums: If you have high blood pressure you should avoid using salt otherwise salt water rinse can help with gum problems but nothing beats good regular brushing and flossing if you have gum disease you should see a periodontist to get it eliminated since controlling it is not enough.

NO: That was a fad back in the 70's, that salt and baking soda would help, and they don't. The best for gum disease is professional treatment, and then good home care with a fluoride-containing toothpaste.

It helps, not treat.: Salt will help to reduce inflammation, but that is only a symptom, not the cause. In gum disease, causes must be treated (bacterial, occlusal, and host factors).
