Dreaming occurs : Nightly in all healthy individuals. Most dreams are in rapid eye movement (rem) periods that happen about every 90 minutes -- less frequent in early sleep & more frequent later in sleep. Many people don't think they have dreams because they don't remember them. Preventing or disrupting rem sleep causes a rebound increase in rem & has various pos & neg effects, including relief of depression.
