Yes, in excess: Low glycemic index refers to the rate of absorbtion of the glucose. Higher fiber and complex carbohydrate containing foods allow the blood sugar to rise more slowly, but eaten in excess lead to the same problem high blood sugar, this can lead to diabetes.
