A member asked:

If the stool tests came back normal/negative for signs of inflammation, do i still need a colonoscopy to see if the issue is microscopic? could it just be ibs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

As an example, all available stool tests will be negative in lymphocytic colitis, a cause of severe chronic diarrhea. Colonoscopy with multiple biopsies is the way it's diagnosed. It is felt to be an autoimmune disorder. This condition is an inflammatory condition & is often missed as a cause of chronic diarrhea.
