If the 24 hour urine collection is accurate then the 24-hr result is more accurate. However, it is almost impossible to have an accurate urine collection in children so the total volume will be less which results in a lower total protein. Because of the difference, random urine for protein/creatinine or albumin/creatinine should be able to confirm or rule out abnormal proteinuria or albuminuria.
