Gums that are irritated bleed when you floss. Gums get irritated when you do not regularly floss. So the bleeding usually means that you have not been flossing regulary. It can also be a reflection of how much aspirin or ibuprofen you have been taking and makes it easier to bleed. Floss daily and avoid regular use of aspirin or ibuprofen or any other anti-inflammatory similar medication.

It is not uncommon to have gum bleeding if you do it vigorously, so you may want to watch your technique. There are other situations like if you have gingivitis and flossing should help in time in removing the bacteria predisposing to the inflammation. There people with increased risk of bleeding that may be due to certain things in their food like ginger and it may be due to vitamin C deficiency.
