A member asked:

An orthodontist wants to reduce the overlap between my top and bottom teeth when i bite down, but would this reduce the comfort of my bite and put extra stress on a smaller portion of my teeth when i bite down? will this alter the way my face looks?

You should seek at least two more opinions from other orthodontists, and then go with the treatment you feel comfortable with.

Correcting your malocclusion will reduce stress on your dentition and supporting structures, distribute masticatory forces, reduce the uneven wear seen when teeth are crooked, reduce stress to your job joints, equalize muscle function, and improve esthetics. If you are seeing a fully qualified specialist Orthodontist, he/she has examined you and is the best practitioner to answer your questions.
