A member asked:

What does it mean if my pap test results were: negative for malignancy and moderate inflammation (nonspecific). before i had my pap smear, i was given antibiotics for bacterial vaginosis before. how can this be associated with the inflammation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Inflammatory cells" found on a pap smear is common in sexually active women. Bacterial vaginosis may remove active infection, but the results from the pap smear show cell types associated in reaction to infectious agents, and this does not necessarily represent active currently treatable infection.
