It may take days (5-7 days) for the edema to resolve if nifedipine is the cause but you should see certain improvement within 3 days. If edema does not resolve beyond one week then other causes of leg edema should be entertained. Labetalol is a non-cardioseletive beta blocker and it can be replaced by carvedilol, propranolol LA, etc. Good luck.
