I just started the generic of benicar once a day plus taking labetalol twice a day. i had to switch from nifedipine because i was swelling . how long does it take for benicar to work? ive only been on it for four days. it seems to be going up?

Benicar is a good antihypertensive. We usually start with 20 mgs but wait 2 weeks before increasing to 40 mgs daily. Labitolol. referred to as a beta dilator, can also cause fluid retention. Adding a daily low dose diuretic like hydrochlorothiazide prevents edema& helps lower BP when used with nifedipine or other antihypertensive meds which cause edema. Remember to have periodic blood tests though
