I have an umbilical hernia and surgery scheduled in 2 weeks. it is fat and not intestine i was told. i only had the soreness for a week. i feel absolutely fine now if at all feel some itching in the belly button area now and then. do i need surgery?

It may only be fat now, but any abdominal wall defect in that location could eventually include small intestine. Repairing the defect while you are in stable/good health is a good option. It may never get worse, but if it does your ability to recuperate from a repair if your health changes may be less optimal. You can always cancel the procedure.
