I would select a daily calcium channel blocker like amlodipine combined with a low dose of a long acting diuretic like hydrochlorothiazide three times a week. Instead of a calcium channel blocker, an ACE inhibitor like lisinopril or an ARB like losartan can be used. Beta blockers are less effective in Blacks because of their greater tendency to fluid retention. Lab work should be monitored also.
