You may not like it: Reserpine is effective at lowering blood pressure, but is rarely used now because in many patients side effects are prominent. There are a lot of blood pressure treatment options. To give you a more helpful answer I would need to see all the data on what's been tried.

Effective as add-on: Reserpine on its own is not very effective; its place is as an add-on for blood pressure. It is considered a last resort because it has severe side effects such as mental depression, anxiety, psychosis, and chest pain, just to name a few. In discussing it as a treatment option with your doctor, you will want to be sure that all other drug classes have been tried.
