Chest CT or X-ray can not detect early stages of esophageal cancer. Barium swallowing study may detect the lesion inside the esophagus but only does EGD with biopsy confirm the diagnosis. I assume you have been evaluated by a GI specialist who does not strongly suspect esophageal cancer; otherwise, he would not schedule an EGD in 2 months. If strongly suspected, it should be done within weeks.
