A member asked:

Can a chest mri rule out esophageal cancer with reasonable accuracy(can't tolerate endoscopy)? symptoms are pain in the chest when swallowing, regurgitation even with ppi treatment?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I would never expect a chest MRI to provide the site specific accuracy and the ability to identify and biopsy suspicious sites immediately offered by endoscopy. At best it could suggest irregular areas that would require endoscopy to evaluate. It would miss a considerable amount of important information. I'd consider it a waste of time.
