Your assumptions are very close. By inverting your foot or ankle you’re going to be stretching the ligaments involved in your injury. Thus the pain. Without instability you still risk re- injuring yourself Contradt bath with strengthening Is required for stability to protect you Ligaments will be always elongated due to injury. Recommend under instruction by physical therapist
