A member asked:

When caring for an unconscious person, will the head tilt/chin lift automatically cause their mouth to open, or do you have to open their mouth separately to prepare for rescue breathing?

Rather than dealing with a situation that can be complex, by providing an isolated simple answer, would suggest learning First Aid techniques. Contact your local Red Cross chapter and enroll in one of their classes. This is usually free and provides a host of valuable techniques.

No, you do not have to open the victim's mouth after the maneuver head tilt-chin lift. Victim's mouth is supposed to be open after that maneuver and ready for the rescue breathing.
