Recently went to the urgent care, hade a sore throat but never had a fever. dr said i have strept throat. prescribed amoxicillin 650mg. i still have a slight sore throat. how common is being negative for std and positive for std on my throat?

The only STD that causes sore throat is gonorrhea, and that's rare: over 90% of throat gonorrhea causes no symptoms at all. In anyone with sore throat, strep throat is a hundred times more likely than gonorrhea, even in people at high risk for STDs. On the other hand, if you have performed oral sex on high risk partners, it is reasonable to have a gonorrhea test of the throat.

If you think you were exposed to possibility of Throat GC you should have given that history at the urgent care. It is very commonn to be neg and rarely positive
