If "strep throat": was confirmed by "rapid-strep" or throat culture, fever should abate after 48 hours on Amoxicillin, 6 doses if given 3x/day, but he needs to his full course of antibiotics to prevent Rheumatic Fever, a result of partially-treated pharyngitis from certain strains of streptococcus. If not, he may have a viral pharyngitis, even "mono", but finish the course unless his doctor tells you not to.
