It isn't possible to know and it causes no symptoms at all. As discussed previously, it is normal to have it. Look around at all your friends, co-workers, or just guys riding the bus. They all have genital HPV, mostly high risk types. Most will never know it.

He has to have it tested for type. The symptoms of both high and low risk do not differ. The virus may be just present or may cause warts depending on many factors.
