Among young adults who have had several sex partners in their lives, ~90% are infected with HPV. The high risk types (HPV 16, 18, and a few others) are among the most common. At any point in time, up to half of such persons have active, transmissible infection. Even with HR types, actual cancer is rare. Common hand warts are rarely (if ever) transmitted to the genitals by hand contact.
