I have had a painful rash which i suspect is perianal streptococcal dermatitis. i went to my dermatologist who prescribed me topical and oral antibiotics, but also did a biopsy. is biopsy common or to confirm something more serious like cancer?

No, skin biopsy is commonly done in skin disease and dermatologists usually do it when the diagnosis is not clear just by looking the lesions. He did not do it for ruling out cancerous lesions, you should not worry about that. Take care.

Yes, a skin biopsy is common in order to establish a firm diagnosis, specifically in cases like yours. Cancer does not appear likely on description only, the biopsy should help in ruling it out.
