A member asked:

Is there a chance of residual glue from braces wearing away on its own, and then my retainer loosening over time because of the glue now gone? or does this residual glue only come off from professional scaling done by a dentist?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's not glue. It'splastic similar to the material they used to secure the heat shield tiles on the Space Shuttles. It's tenacious, and should be removed by whoever placed your braces. Retainers will loosen over time from normal use, and any specialist Orthodontist will want to see you for periodic retention visits.
