So confused. what can cause just one pip index joint to hurt in flares but only when pressure is applied sideways? nearing one year now, had xray but suspect nothing will show up. seems minor but it turns out you use your joints more then you realise?

You should see a hand surgeon to evaluate this pain. There can be many causes-from bone to tendon to muscle. The only way to know for sure what is causing the pain is for a hand specialist to examine it and do necessary testing. Then, proper treatment can be rendered. Best of luck to you!
